Foucault's Pendulum
Supposedly this is a Foucault’s Pendulum. It’s free-rotating and only turns based on the rotation of the earth. I had hard time believing this is true. How is it free-rotating independently of the earth? It’s still connected to the earth and therefore moves along with it — just like you do. Geek out here.

Tesla Coil
Nikola Tesla wanted to use these to transmit electricity. Not practical but much more amusing than what we do. Read more.

Everyone was sick of me taking photos.

Me, dressed as a campaigner for McCain
Finally, we have a picture of me. You don’t get the full effect because you can’t see my fake tattoos, my ear ring, or my metal studded bracelet. Although the costume really didn’t look like it was coming together that day, I’m glad I dressed that way. Strangers didn’t know my tattoos were fake, assumed I wasn’t dressed up for Halloween, and was just a jerk. Friends also had a visceral reaction. One snapped at me and another told me he was suppressing the urge to punch me in the face. My costume ended up being an interesting sociological experiment (results inconclusive).

I had no intention of taking photos this past September 11th. I was out for a run when I came across more amateur photographers than I had ever seen taking shooting the memorial lights from the Brooklyn promenade. I thought I’d just come back the next year to take my own photos.
What made me run back home and get my camera was the waterfalls. This would be the only time I could ever take such a photo, memorial lights behind the one-time only public art of the waterfalls.
I ran home got my camera. Backpack jingling, I ran back and took these photos.

By the time I got back, the waterfalls had been turned off. Oh well, they were killing trees anyway.
